- Horses have been integrated into my life for over 13 years, and have always been my passion. Almost everyday since the age of 8, horses have been involved whether taking riding lessons, competing, volunteering or caring for their day-to-day needs.
After gaining experience through volunteering and lessons, I started exchanging barn chores for free leases. I was fortunate to be able to lease many different breeds that ranged from a Welsh pony to Warmbloods, and the young unbroken to retired racehorses. I gained a vast variety of experience and confidence in working with the young and growing horse, the performance horse, as well as the geriatric equine. I had always been interested in providing the best care, and focused my attention on ways to improve and optimize their health and well being no matter the level of difficulty.

I am now the owner of a 5-year-old mare, Macy, and ever since the day I bought her my goal was to spend as much time with her as possible. During a trip to a friends stable in Thunder Bay I came across equine massage therapy. I researched different programs to become certified, but was disappointed in what was available. I decided that to become the professional I needed to be, I would have to do more than just a week class to learn the techniques. I then went on to complete the Equine Science certification offered by the University of Guelph where I studied equine nutrition, anatomy, exercise physiology, behaviour, health and disease prevention, and stable management. I then completed the Equine Sports Massage Therapy program through Equissage I became a certified Equine Massage Therapist, and also became registered with the International Association of Animal Massage Therapists.

Sports massage differs from other forms of massage in that it focuses on the cause of muscle injury with the intent of not just relieving muscular pain, but assisting as well in the prevention of future injuries to those muscles.
Benefits:
- Enhances muscle tone and increases range of motion
- Assists in balancing the body by treating the body as a whole, rather than an individual part
- Reduces inflammation and swelling in the joints, thereby alleviating pain
- Promotes healing by increasing the flow of nutrients to the muscles, and carrying away excessive fluids and toxins
- Creates a positive effect on the contractual and release process of the muscles. When tension is released, muscles relax
- Stimulates circulation by “defrosting frozen muscles,” thereby releasing endorphins – the body’s natural pain killers. Improved circulation also increases the excretion of toxins through the skin
- Helps maintain the whole body in better physical condition
Important Notice:
Equine Massage Therapy should never be a substitute for Veterinary treatment. I will recommend a qualified veterinarian for any condition other than those which are clear muscular etymology. Horses suffering from shock, fever, or cancer will be excluded from any and all treatments. -

"Allie began massaging Voldemort very slowly. It was amazing to watch the communication develop between Allie and Voldemort. As Allie worked, Voldemort began to relax; his head came down, his whole demeanor changed. You could really tell that he appreciated the relief he was receiving from Allie's hands.
Allie is a gifted equine massage therapist with a unique blend of compassion and knowledge. An Equine Massage Therapist should be chosen with great consideration. You are putting your horse(s) well-being into his/her "hands". The therapist must be very receptive to the horse and the horse's responses. Allie has those abilities. She is constantly monitoring what the horse is telling her, and either continues with what she is doing, or changes her method depending upon the horse's reaction. She takes Time - first allowing the horse to accept her - then giving the horse plenty of opportunity to act/re-act. She is Patient, Honest, Gentle, Genuine, Thoughtful and Methodical. Allie has amazing talent - my horse enjoyed her - yet she has no Vanity - she is sincere.

"Josie had her massage today....I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first.....however after seeing how tense my mare was when Allie Lyons started to massage her and release knots that poor Josie had for who knows how long....I seen my mare relax.....her lip quiver and little sighs of relief. I feel so bad I had a saddle on her that was too small and she put up with it for a long time.... after a time she would pin her ears every time she seen the saddle .... Read More -

so I went on line and researched saddle fit and sure enough did not fit properly. Allie also noticed that she was more tender on the left and asked if I leaned to the left, I know I do not....so I went and looked at the saddle ...and low and behold not only was it the wrong size...it was more worn on the left and I could feel...small staples or a small nail there on the left.....:( could kick my own ass if I could reach it. I am so thankful that Allie Lyons....came and took great care of my Josie. My mare loved her massage....I noticed she walked more relaxed her head and neck where relaxed afterwards..... I would recommend Allie Lyons in a heart beat she is awesome... Josie will get another one next week.....until she feels better. I THANK YOU AND JOSIE THANKS YOU ALLIE LYONS! WE BOTH FEEL BETTER :)"
